The Tale of Desperate

So lately our country has started to sound a little desperate, and no I’m not talking politics.  I’m talking EVERYTHING.  We desperately need cheaper gas and…we desperately need those new cell phones from the Consumer Electronics Show that will just make our lives AWESOME!  We are desperate for love, AND we are desperate for chocalate.  Some say they go hand in hand.  Maybe they do, maybe they don’t.  But if you’ve been able to follow so far you can see our measure of what is absolutely necessary to our lives and what is not.  I think when things get a little tough in life, we have a tendency to latch on to the little things and let those control our lives so we don’t have to face realities of what the underlying problem is.  We are content to let others decide our fate in the big things while we spend our time deciding whether or not Crock’s are still in style. (They aren’t by the way)  Its a defense mechanism I know, but sometimes we have to fight the urge to retreat or better yet actually step into the fight and do something instead of ignoring issues until its to late to really change a thing.  Life is what God gives us, but we do have the freedom of choice.  We can choose to be IN the story or just merely the ones who read it at the end of the day saying they are going to be in a story like THAT when they grow up!

  1. Very interesting. You seem to have the same thinking I have had lately. We constantly are bombarded by things that society says that we must have to fit in. The sources are unbelievable. TV, Radio, Magazines, Newspapers, Celebrities, billboards and the mail. They try to portray that if we don’t have these things, we won’t fit in. (partially why I don’t watch tv or listen to the radio)
Humans naturally want attention, so these outlets say that’s what we need to have to have the attention we desire. As humans, we grow up blindly following what these outlets say we should have/wear. What do we really want? What would we be like if we did not have any of these sources bombarding us?
We always want to be in our comfort shell and fit in with our surroundings and feel wanted.
When one goes outside of this way of being, they are immediately outcast. Called “weird” and other things behind their back. This is sad, but true. Will this trend ever change? Probably not.
It is hard to step out of the shell, out of the way that we are supposed to think, but it is possible. It will make a lot of people angry (I know this from experience) and others think you are strange and other such things, but at least you don’t have to be false anymore.
Something that amused me today was when I walked into CVS, I was bombarded with Valentines day things. Why do we really celebrate Valentines day? Would it make a difference if it was like any other day? No. This is just an example of the media trying to tell us what we should do.
    I’ll quit my rant….opinion?
